The declining market of commercial
vehicle has not discouraged the flow of investment for the bus segment. It has
already created a buzz that Daimler & Volvo– Global Truck Makers are
preparing their manufacturing units for the manufacturing of
completely-assembled buses for Indian market.
According to Daimler, annually 40,000
buses are required in India. China is in the top list but India is running no
lesser as it is expected that the required units will be double in a decade.
Daimler in India known as Daimler India Commercial Vehicles that was going
through a tough phase as it lacked financially will be able to manufacture bus
more effectively with the investment of 425 crore. The German giant will invest
for Oragadam, Chennai based bus-making unit.
The
first buses are expected to roll out in the second quarter of 2015 "We will develop a new front-engine school and staff
bus in partnership with Wrightbus, said Hartmut Schnick, head of Daimler Buses.”
Due to technological advancement and
keeping comfort level of passengers in mind, many auto companies have come
forward with luxurious range of buses for long routes."If economic growth
gains momentum, there is an inherent potential for long-distance travel.
Therefore, there is a need for enhancing capacity on road, said Kumar
Kandaswami, manufacturing leader for Deloitte in India. "
India
will be introduced with UD bus range that will be aimed for the value market
here and to those who can buy high-priced bus tickets. Vovo has already announced for launching value segment buses with
its UD brand in India. This project is currently in its inception stage,
according to Akash Passey, senior VP, Volvo Bus Corporation, the bus division
of Volvo Group.
